Board the Interislander, a slow boat from New Zealands' North Island to the South Island. This 3 1/2 hour ferry ride will take you from the creative bussy-ness of the countries capital, Wellington. Over the Cook Straight, into the intricate green lands of the Marlborough Sounds. And into the laid back seaport town of Picton. With a population of 6000, it iwll not take long before a local surprises you with a distant hello from their front porch. 3 Days and 2 nights is sufficient time to experience in and around Picton. Day One: Book a full day wine tour and experience why the tastes of Marlborough are world renowned. On your return get yourself a hearty Pub meal at the Marinas' Bar and Restaurant. Your accomodation is at the homely "Bayview Backpackers". Day Two: Sweat out the previous days indulgences with a One day hike on the Queen Charlotte track. Be sure to pack lunch, raincoat, sunhat etc... Go nature bound. Tonight you will relax over a bottle of wine you picked up on the wine tour, and sleep well. Day 3: You leave Picton along the Scenic route of the Queen Charlotte Drive and onto Nelson.
Welcome to the South Island of New Zealand.
